A year after the tragic death of New York City fashion designer Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra, her family has filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Christopher Durnan, an insurance executive and investor in her company, alleging “gross negligence” and “reckless and wanton conduct,” as well as assault.
On the night of August 4, 2025, Nolan-O’Slatarra visited Durnan’s yacht, docked at the Montauk Yacht Club, for an alleged business meeting. Nearby residents reported hearing screams and witnessed Durnan, who was naked, yelling at other boats to “do something.” Nolan-O’Slatarra was found unconscious the morning of August 5, 2026, and bystanders attempted to resuscitate her. First responders later pronounced her dead on scene.
According to initial reports, the police believed that Nolan-O’Slatarra died of an accidental drug overdose; however, a separate independent autopsy conducted by family found only a “trace amount of cocaine” in her system, therefore contradicting the initial reports. According to her family’s lawyer, the EMTs found “blood in her mouth, on her chest and head, on the floor, and possibly behind her head.”
The family is seeking relief and intends to recover damages for their daughter’s death, and the “personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering sustained” in the moments before her passing.
